Hauntological music is stated by academic Sean Albeiz to suggest "an uncanny mixture of shared but faded cultural memories with sinister undercurrents".


So - this is a departure from our more pastoral and peaceful pieces -but then - it is always good to try new things and experiment.


'Hauntology' came about as a musical creation from the confluence of two film related projects and a study in the sonic properties of a 48" Chinese Gong.


The two movies were a murder mystery and a sci-fi thriller - both of which demanded extended sequences of tension-inducing music with periodic episodes of strange, but at the same time, familiar sounds.


We would love to work on an Adam Curtis film as we feel this album fits his metier perfectly.


Working from the colours suggested by the film scripts we improvised material drawing on ideas from themes and ideas from the past - TV , movies, pop music etc and in post production worked the material to fit the scenes - thereby gaining the outline of a narrative to what it largely soundtrack ambience.

Subsequently we listened to a bunch of music called 'Hauntological' and found that - even though what we do is beyond any genre - the term actually fits very well.
