about

Aura - the Sound of Celestial Light.

Astronomical objects that are visible to the naked eye (or with the aid of a small telescope) have a beauty and visual resonance that is to do with the nature of light.

Light has no substance and yet manifests in myriad ways.

Light sources from space can be billions of years old (the Milky Way) and are always distinctive in subtle and fascinating ways.

These sources of light are celestial in origin.

The 'celestial sphere' is the classical idea that all celestial light can be mapped to an imaginary sphere surrounding the earth so that all the light sources appears equally distant from the viewer.

When in fact - they are all shining their light to us, in immense complexity, over vast distances, in constant whirling motion, throughout eternity, in infinity.

We simply cannot comprehend what we are in reality looking at when we look into a cold clear sky at night.

This is music designed to help to connect more deeply with the celestial light that we ordinarily simply gaze upon

So - this music is music 'to gaze on an imaginary celestial sphere'.

It was created using the idea that the light we see is conditioned in innumerable ways (before it reaches us) but has a wonderous consistency with itself that I hope to convey in this music.

Also - this consistency - I believe - is a form of communication from nature.

If the stars could sing to us - perhaps they would sound like this.

The music is not meant to be definitive, descriptive or illustrative but rather to be an invitation to explore an embodied experience of sonic art.

It is peculiar.

It changes when listened to at different volumes. It is hard to remember what you have listened to before, even when you listen to it again.

But it also stays consistently the same.

Just like the stars.

I would be very interested to know your discoveries and ideas about this music and these ideas.
